    The Celts

    The Celts were the first tribe to settle in the British Isles.
    They talked Welsh and Scottish Gaelic. Some words they gave to the English were:
    Bog, clan, crumpet and dad.
  • The Romans

    The Romans

    The Romans invaded England in the 55 BC.
    They gave Latin names to some places, for example:
    London.
    Also, some word like: Forum, port and campus.
  • The Anglo-Saxons

    The Anglo-Saxons

    The Anglo-Saxons were the first people who spoke English.
    They arrived in England in about the year 450 and their language was Old English. Some words were: Live, love, heaven, fight, good, evil, man and more.
  • The Vikings

    The Vikings

    Around the year 800 the Vikings started to invade Britain.
    The Vikings came from countries like Denmark and
    Norway.
    Some word they gave:
    Freckle, leg, skull, skirt, skin, sky, egg and more.
  • The Normans
    1066

    The Normans

    In the 1066, Normans invaded England from Normandy, in France.
    They spoke an earlier version of french, and this became the language of prestige in England.
    Some words they gave were:
    Please, sign, very, peace, nobility, felony, and more.
