The murder of Dr. Whitman, his wife, and 12 others at the Waiilaptu mission sparked the Cayuse War. The Natives' perspective is that Whitman and his people came to give them Christianity, although they never wanted it. Their solution was to kill everybody so they would leave them alone. The settlers' perspective was that they wanted to give them their beliefs so they could live like them. The government's perspective was that they should send people to the Natives so they could live like them.

The government's perspective was that the Indians weren't listening to the missionaries, so they sent out the troops to make the Indians surrender. -
Stevens held meetings with the biggest Indian groups and got them to sign 10 treaties in over a year, but it was to give up their land. The Indians perspective is that they didn't agree to what the settlers said in the treaty but they signed it anyway because they didn't understand English. The settlers perspective is that they tricked the Natives into giving up land. The goverments perspective is that they got land to build whatever on and it would still be their land.

A Cayuse chief sent 5 warriors out to the US troops to surrender for the murder of the Whitmans. The warriors were hanged, but the violence continued. By 1855, the Cayuse were defeated. Those who survived got moved onto reservations. The Native's perspective was that if they surrendered nothing bad would happen and the peace would be kept. The settlers perspective was that if they kept fighting then they would get their way. The governments perspective is that they should send troops to fight.

Nisqually Chief Leschi is executed after he kills a US soldier during a time of war. The Indians' perspective is that they have no more access to the Nisqually River. The settlers' perspective is that Leschi did something "unjust," so he got punished for it. The government's perspective is that Leschi killed one of his soldiers, so he needed to be killed. In 2004, a court ruled that the execution of Chief Leschi was unjust.

The Indians' perspective was that the white settlers coerced them into selling their land, but they didn't understand the law. The settlers' perspective was that they got easy land from the Indians. The government liked that they got more land and didn't need to start another war.

The government's perspective was that their people found gold, which they would sell, and they would get money.
