Period: 199,999 BCE to 107,975 BCE
homo erectus
Homo erecuts were the first human-like species. We originate from them. I chose to put them here because without them we wouldn't be alive. They lived in Africa. They were the ones who found out how to make fire. They lived between 1.89 million and 111,000 years ago. -
Period: 10,000 BCE to 2200 BCE
New Stone Age
This was very important because before this people were living nomadic (never staying in the same spot always moving). This is when agriculture and framing was created. This meant that people could stay in one spot. We saw towns and cities develop because of this. -
339 BCE
Alexander the Great
Alexander the Great was ruler of Macedonia. Alexander's father was able to unify the Greek states. Alexander conquered a lot of land, and destroyed the Persian empire forever. This is why I chose to add him in here -
Period: 811 to 1498
Feudalism
Feudalism was at its highest in the 9th and 15th century. Feudalism was a system that was a hierarchy in the middle ages. The king was at the top and the serfs were at the bottom. It was a system built around protection. The kings helped you and in return you protected them. This is significant because we can study the way this society worked and see if we should take some aspects of it or not. -
Period: 1301 to
The Renaissance
The Renaissance was seen as a rebirth. It was after the middle ages. Humanism is the idea that humans are good, and celebrates the beauty of humans. We also saw a lot of famous artist come form this era like Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Donatello and more. There was also a lot of architecture and philosophy too. I chose to add this because there were a lot of improvements made during this period that still positive affected us. -
Rosetta stone
The Rosetta stone has the same message written three times in three different languages. It was written in hieroglyphics, Demotic, and Ancient Greece. The reason It's important, and the reason I put it here, is because scholars at that time knew how to read ancient Greece, so it helped them learn how to read hieroglyphics. (The date I attached to this event is the date it was discovered). -
Industrialist revolution
The industrialist revolution was a time of major change. Places that were once urban were now getting industrialized and urbanized. Products were getting mass produced. This was important because it changed how life was lived. Communication, transportation, and how people worked changed. -
Karl Marx/Communism
Karl Marx is the founder of communism. Communism is a political ideology and type of government. This was created to destroy the class system and share the benefits of labor equally. I chose to put this in here because communism has had a very big impact on our world. -
Period: to
World War 1
World war 1 happened because of the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. It can be called the first modern war. In this war we saw more women enter the work force while the men were away. We also saw the spread of the Spanish flu that killed around 20-50 million people. A lot of the conflicts that happened here led up to world war 2. -
Period: to
WW2
World war 2 was a war between the allied and axis powers. In this war we saw the holocaust which was when a lot of Jewish people were persecuted and there was mass murder. There was a lot of tension from world war 1 that led up to this war. This war has the most deaths out of any war. I chose it because it is very important. We can still feel the impacts of it to this day, and by learning about it we can make sure it never happens again. -
Period: to
Vietnam War
The Vietnam War was to try to stop the spread of communism in Vietnam. North Vietnam was trying to make South Vietnam communists. This is important because it affected how people saw the U.S's role in war, and it showed that the U.S was going to try and stop communism if possible. -
The red scare/McCarthyism
The red scare and McCarthyism was thought to be at Its highest in the late 1940's and 1950's. This was when there was a big fear of socialism, communism, and immigrants. McCarthy exaggerated this by saying there were communists in higher power (like the government) and there was a list with there names on it. This caused even more fear in people. This is important because it still affects how people see communism and socialism in this country.
