the Missouri compromise
The Missouri Compromise of 1820 was supposed to balance out free and slave states. Missouri started as a slave state, and that started problems with northern states about slavery spreading into new territories. Leading This comprised that allowed Missouri to become a slave state and Maine a free state to be balanced. -
Indian removal act of 1830
The Indian Removal Act of 1830 was signed by the president, giving the authorities the right to remove and relocate Native American tribes living east of the Mississippi River to land west as a way to clear out the land to make room for white settlers in the west. -
The Oregan trail
This trail allowed settlers to head west to Oregon and California to seek opportunities. Thousands of pioneers would follow this until they were satisfied with what the discovered within that land. They also found it a very easy way to trade, making an economic impact. They would use the trail to commerce and connect the eastern market with western resources. -
The Texas revolution
A war that started with American settlers living in Texas rebelling against the Mexican government and ended with them successfully gaining their independence from Mexico. It later became a part of the U.S. Republic, leading to the annexation of Texas, opening up more land for settlers to migrate to. -
manifest destiny
Manifest Destiny is the idea that any white American has the god given right to settle in new territories. This led to settlers moving westward to seek the opportunities the land had to offer. It led to many significant events and conflicts such as the Oregon Trail, the Indan Removal Act, the Mexican-American war, and many more. Just based on an idea that you had the right to conquer and nobody can tell you any different. -
Mexican- American war
The Mexican-American War began after the 1845 annexation of Texas, a new part of Mexico. After Texas declared independence from Mexico, the U.S. tried to make Texas part of the U.S., leading to Mexico declaring war. The war ended on February 2, 1848, with the ready of Guadalupe Hildalgo. After 2 years the U.S won lots of new territory including California, Texas, colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, nevada, and utah. -
Gold rush
Gold was found in California, leading hordes of people to seek it. As soon as they arrived, miners atrted mining and panning for gold, eventually realizing they won't find any. The president at the time encouraged movement to California. people returned to searching after big companies started investing more and more in mining tools. In 1948 alone, 80,000 people moved west just for the gold. -
The Louisiana purchase
The United States gained about 828,000 square miles of territory from France in 1803. The new land made American settlers curious, wondering what resources they could find and wanting to conquer this new land, moving them out west to seek that oppertunity.
