Nick arrives in New York
Summer of 1922, Nick arrives in West egg and moves into the house next to Gatsby. This creates a mystery for the readers through Nick as he has never seen Gatsbys to his knowledge. But sees a mysterious figure reach out into the night of gatsby dock. Nick goes to have dinner with Daisy his cousin, and her husband Tom. -

The Party and the drive to New York
After dinner with daisy and Tom, Tom drives him to the city where it is revealed that Tom has a separate life with his mistress Myrtle. On the drive he finds a grey desolate plain called the valley of ashes where Myrtle and her husband live. When at the party, Myrtle brings up daisy and Tom gets very upset and breaks Myrtle’s nose cause it the party to come to an end. -

Gatsby’s Party
Nick receives an invitation to his neighbor, who he has never met, party and he is the only person who got one. At the party Nick hears many rumors about Gatsby killing someone or being a spy, so he goes looking for Gatsby. When he finally met Gatsby he became very intrigued. -

Gatsby and Daisy’s history
Nick goes to lunch with his potential girlfriend, Jordan baker, and she reveals the history between Gatsby and daisy, and the reason for his invitation. -

Tea at nicks with Gatsby and daisy
Gatsby asks nick to help him see daisy again, so they meet for tea at nicks. Gatsby helps arrange the whole meeting and is very anxious. Daisy sees Gatsby for the first time and is very emotional, and Gatsby is very awkward. At the end of the night, they kiss at the end of the dock. -

James Gatz
Gatsby tells Nick about his past. Gatsby saw a yacht owned by Dan Cody, and rowed out to warm him about an impending storm. Cody took young Gatsby on board of his yacht as his personal assistant. Gatsby fell in love with the life of wealth and luxury. -

Gatsby and Tom’s confrontation and Myrtle’s accident
When Tom and Gatsby have lunch with Nick and Daisy Tom discovers Gatsby's feelings for Daisy. Daisy then reveals that she too is in love with Gatsby. They get into a fight and then Tom tells Gatsby and Daisy to leave together. Gatsby lets Daisy drive, but she ends up hitting and killing Myrtle on the way home. It was a hit and run. -

Gatsby is shot
Gatsby goes swimming in the pool the day after the incident and is shot by Wilson, Myrtle’s husband. They are both discovered by Nick and the Gardner soon after the shots were fired. Wilson shot Gatsby then himself. -

Gatsby’s funeral
Nick tries to invite all of Gatsby’s friends or acquaintances but they have all disappeared or refused to go. Tom and daisy move away and disappear, and Wolfshiem says he won’t go. Nick, Gatsby’s servants, and Gatsby’s father Henry Gatz are the only people who attend the funeral. After the funeral, Nick breaks up with Jordan and move away to the Midwest. Where he sees Tom again and Tom admits he blamed Gatsby for something he knew Daisy did. -

Nicks Reflection in the end
Nick then realizes that they are careless people who know that it doesn’t matter what they do because they have money. Nick reflects on The American Dream and how Gatsby achieved it with his wealth but his dream ended due to pushing for societal equality. He uses the metaphor as boats moving against a current to embody the struggles of people who strive for The American Dream
