My grandma used VHS tapes to record programs from TV for us to watch later, like Sesame Street and Peanuts.

Techie uncle gives us his old Commodore! I had no idea what to do with it, but it was really cool.

Same uncle gives us an old Apple IIe with lots of floppy disk games. We played Oregon Trail and Carmen San Diego the most.

Grandad buys a Mac (with the help of said techie uncle, his son) and lets my sister and me play on it when we visit! There were only a couple of games (both Star Trek based), but that was OK!

I got my first Walkman, it would play the radio and cassette tapes. Later on, I would put scotch tape over the record tab so I could record music from the radio "forbidden" by my parents: anything not classical/instrumental or Christian.

The local library gets computers! (No graphics, though.) I signed up for my first email newsletter: DC Talk.

My parents finally bought a regular Microsoft PC! It was used, and we still had dial-up internet through AOL, but we had graphics! We played a lot of Chip's Challenge and Minesweeper. And did some Mavis Beacon typing.

First year of high school, they gave us lots of typewriting practice -- on an actual typewriter.
