The nine year war between British America and New France had ended. It took place from 1754 - 1763 and resulted in multiple war debts that needed to desperately be paid.

The Stamp Act was a tax that required a stamp for printed items. Passed in 1765, the colonies weren't very fond of this act.

Stamp Act Congress was a meeting between representatives for the 13 colonies held in October 1765. The meeting was to discuss the colonies problems with the Stamp Act that had been passed by Parliament to tax the colonies.

After the colonies had voiced their problems with the Stamp Act and how it had not even benefited Parliament at all, it was finally repealed in 1766. Parliament had later gone on to find other way of taxing the colonies.

The Boston massacre was a shooting in 1770 between British soldiers and an angry mob of American colonists. It resulted in five colonists dying, included a free black man.

The Townshend Acts were finally repealed in 1770, the same year as the Boston Massacre. However Britain chose to keep the tax on tea, which later showed to be quite problematic.

The Boston Tea party was an event in 1773 when the Sons of Liberty dressed up as Mohawk Indians, boarded British ships and threw a bunch of tea into the Boston harbor in protests. This ended up angering Parliament.

First Continental Congress was a meeting in 1774 between delegates from each colony, save Georgia. The point of the meeting was to discuss what they should do about being ruled by a tyrant king and having parliament always control their laws.

The Second Continental Congress was a meeting held after the First Continental Congress by the colonies. This meeting got the colonies to sign the Declaration of Independence in 1775 and finally be considered an independent country.
