George Washington was the 1st President of the United States. He was born in Westmoreland County, Virginia in 1732.

In 1775, George Washington was elected to the second Continental Congress. He then became commander in chief of the Continental Army which led the military to victory in the American Revolution.

On October 19, 1781 British General Charles Cornwallis surrendered his army of 8,000 men to General George Washington at Yorktown. This gave him no chance of winning the Revolutionary War.

The Naturalization Act of 1790, signed into law by George Washington on March 26, 1790, was the first law to establish a uniform set of rules for granting US citizenship. In the 1790 Act, the First Congress limited naturalization to “any alien being a free white person.”
