    Birth
    Friedrich Engels was born November 28, 1820 in Barmen Germany. He was born into a relatively wealthy family. Friedrich's father owned a textile factory.
  • Job experience

    When Engels was 17, he became acquiring business experience at the request of his father. As a teenager, he published poetry, showed an interest in journalism, learned multiple languages, and actively participated in philosophical debates. It did not take long before Engels started living a double life of sorts. He was a regular businessman during the day but at night he was a radial left-wing intellectual. He even started writing articles under the false name Friedrich Oswald.

    One of Engels' first published works that highlight the wrongdoings of industrialization and hypocrisy in the district he grew up in.
  • The Big Move

    Engels ended up moving to Manchester, England in October, 1842. His reasoning behind the move was to continue his career as a radical journalist and work at one of his fathers textile factories.
  • The Best Friend

    Engels met Karl Marx a couple years after he moved to Manchester. He contributed articles to Marx's annual publication "Outlines of a Critique of Political Economy." Marx was so impressed with Engels' work that it sparked a life-long partnership and friendship.

    Engels published this book in German to bring awareness to the poor living and working conditions of English workers. It is said to of had a huge impact of the people of England.

  • "The Communist Manifesto"
