1.2 French and Indian War Timeline

  • End of the French and Indian War

    -British won the war but was left in a lot of war debt
    -Left the colonists angry and upset because of the lack of say in all of it
  • Sugar Act

    -Imposed taxes on raw sugar, molasses, silk, wine, coffee, and indigo
    -The colonists were furious because they claimed it hurt trade and violated their English rights
  • Stamp Act

    -Taxed most printed materials
    -The colonists ignored it and began boycotting all British goods
  • Declaratory Act

    -Stated parliament had the power to make laws on the colonies no matter if they were taxed or not
    -Colonists were outraged because they knew there were more acts to come
  • Townshend Acts

    -Four acts which introduced new regulations and taxes onto the colonists
    -This infuriated the colonists causing a lot of protests, some violent, and the dividing of the colonists
  • Tea Act

    -Helped a tea company bring in more tea which taxed the colonists even more from previous tea taxes
    -The colonists were angered by tax on tea so they started to boycott tea as a whole which also led to them responding with the Boston Tea Party
  • Start of the Revolutionary War

    -The war for independence with the colonies breaking away from the British
    -The colonists were done with the way they were being treated, they wanted to finally have that freedom and independence they deserved
