Mary Shelley was born in 1797 to her parents, William Godwin and Mary Wollstonecraft. -
In November of 1812, Mary comes home from a trip to Scotland to see her father tutoring a young poet, Percy Shelley. The two quickly fell in love. -
Mary's father did not approve of their relationship. So, in 1816, the two got married and ran away to Switzerland together. They got married on December 30, 1814. -
Mary Shelley gave birth to her and Percy's son, William, on January 24, 1816. -
In May of 1816, Mary and Percy decide to go on vacation to Lake Geneva. -
During the summer of 1816, the weather was unusually rainy and cold. Percy and Mary were staying with a group of authors, and due to boredom decided to have a scary story writing contest. This is when Mary wrote Frankenstein. She was only 18 years old. -
"Frankenstein" was officially published on January 1, 1818. Mary was only 20 years old at the time of its publishing.
