This artwork by Diego Rivera exaggerates the size of the flowers in the picture. This is likely because Rivera respects people who carried the flowers because he thinks it was hard work. (Rivera, 1925, pg.#519)

In the mural everyone was working and they were working together. The only rule that the Detroit Institute of Arts had was that the work must relate to the history of Detroit and the development of industry. Rivera did not follow this rule because they weren't happy there was people of different race working together. Two major issues the public had with the mural was that there was people who had a different race and they all were working together. (Rivera, 1932-1933, pg. #503)

In the sketching the people look calm and focused on something. It suprises me that in the sketch the people who are standing further up and less crouched down are more detailed. (Rivera, 1933 pg.# 505)

Some topics represented are War, gardening, and the sky. The title does not provide a good description of the mural because the guy in the image is not the controller of the universe. (Rivera, 1934, pg. #494)

In this photo Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera are wearing very different clothes. Diego's clothes look thick and it's all about the same color, but Frida's clothes look thin and more colorful. They both look dressed formally though like they are going to a nice restraunt. (Kahlo Rivera, 1939, pg.# 509)

The painting is of Frida Kahlo in a leafy jungle with a blue sky. Kahlo might have wanted to draw the viewer's attention to the necklace to represent pain she went through. (Kahlo, 1940, pg.# 502)
-
Rivera takes a look at Kahlo's work and the qualities that most impressed him were her pictures "communicated a vital sensuality complemented by a merciless yet sensitive power of observation." She was an authentic artist. Kahlo just wants criticism of a serious man from Rivera. Rivera admires Kahlo for her art.

In the text Frida says he has never been, nor will he ever be, anybody's husband. Suprisingly Kahlo describes his skin as a greenish whit color like on an aquatic animal. Fridas feelings for Rivera and his work are negative, because she said " he cannot lead a normal life" (Kahlo, 1960 pg. # 511 paragraph 7)
-
Frida expressed her culture more through things she got. Two characteristics of the kitchen in the Blue House contributed to its overall typically Mexican feel were Earthernware pots, and white, blue, and yellow spanish tiles. The authors chose to reference Kahlos too painting The Bride Frightened at Seeing Life Opened because Kahlo was using fruit to make dinner. (Rivera, 1994, pg. # 515)
-
In the letter Kahlo says the saddest part of her current situation with Rivera is that they are not even friends anymore. In the letter Kahlo says she wants freedom from Diego. Diego is not being honest to Kahlo "He always lies to me and hides every detail of his life" (Kahlo, 1995, pg. # 507 paragraph 7).
