    Time period after the Civil War in which the U.S. was working to reconstruct the nation. Included the passing of the 14th and 15th Amendments
  • Industrialization

    Industrialization

    Time period in which the American economy shifted to focus on factory and industrial growth, resulting in new technologies and advancements
  • The Gilded Age

    The Gilded Age

    The era started around 1872, and lasted until 1900. It was a age characterized by political corruption, wealth disparity, and covering up the issues within the U.S.
  • People's Party Formed

    People's Party Formed

    The Populist/People's party was formed.
  • Coxey's Army

    Coxey's Army

    A protest led by Jacob Coxey in Washington D.C. to urge Congress to hire unemployed workers to do things like build roads. Their cries were ultimately ignored.

    A war between Spain and America. One main cause was the rise of yellow journalism in the U.S., and the bombing of the USS Maine

    The 1920s were a decade of prosperity and cultural advancements for the U.S.. Things like economic growth and the Harlem Renaissance propelled the U.S. forward.

    Beginning with the stock market crash of 1929, America fell into a great depression. Millions lost their jobs, and it was very hard to recover from this event.

    FDR was elected president in 1932, and brought the New Deal to help bring America out of the depression. The plan included banking reform, federal relief, and agricultural support. It helped to bring America out of the depression.
  • Pearl Harbor

    Pearl Harbor

    Japan bombed the U.S. naval base at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. As a result, the U.S. entered World War II, which changed the course of history.

    World War II

    The U.S. entered the war in 1941. This was ended in 1945, after the U.S. dropped the atomic bombs on Japan, and Hitler's suicide.
  • Cold War

    Cold War

    This war started in 1947, and lasted until 1991. It was a rivalry between the U.S. and the Soviet Union. There was no direct combat, but the two countries constantly tried to outdo the other, leading to lots of tension.

    Brown v. Board of Education

    Supreme court decision that overturned Plessy v. Ferguson. The ruling forced Southern school to desegregate, and allow black children to learn with white children. It was met with outrage, and required the president to intervene, and send troops to protect the children.

    On this day, Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat to a White man. This led to her being jailed, and the start of a boycott in Montgomery, which ended in 1956.
  • Civil Rights Act of 1964

    Civil Rights Act of 1964

    This act was passed by LBJ, and prohibited discrimination based or race, among other things. This was a landmark achievement for the Civil Rights Movement.
  • Watergate Scandal

    Watergate Scandal

    This incident refers to a burglary that happened in 1972 at the DNC headquarters. President Richard Nixon attempted to cover up the situation, which led to him resigning in 1974, as his impeachment and removal were looming.
