    Hubert stayed in the kitchen when the Co got orders to move at 3am. The Sergeant said that shooting would stop at 10:59am, after the Armistice was signed. Sure enough, at 10:59, while Wesselman was reading a book, the shooting stopped.

    One day Hubert was at his anti-aircraft post, when an anti-aircraft gun began firing at a plane right above them. Shrapnel fell near him and it was later discovered that there was a French battery had been located and the Huns began shooting it, causing an explosion in the 89th division. (Exact date unknown)

    Left at 730 in the morning for Trier, Germany. Had to lay over all day, waiting for trucks. Left four trucks behind, in the ditch, because of the slick road conditions.

    Left camp at 6am and arrived at noon. Saw and experienced many castles and historic landmarks. Experienced the beauty of the river surrounded by hills, covered in grape vineyards. They saw the Stoltzenfels Castle.
  • Travel to Verdun.

    Left the barracks at 3:30am. Hit the road shortly after 7:00am. When they left camp, they passed through the most devastated part of France. The towns were shot up, until they arrived at Commercy, which appeared untouched.
  • Leviathan.

    Left camp at 7:30am. Walked to Brest Harbor and sailed on the Leviathan. The ship was MASSIVE. It was easier to get lost on it than in a bustling city.
  • Homecoming.

    Hubert was discharged at 10am and arrived home to Denver, around 7pm. The relief was immense. The journey home was rough, but he was just glad to be home..
