At the age of 4 she started playing tennis. One day Evonne Goolagong was walking and looked through a fence where people were playing tennis and the coach asked her if she wanted to join and she did and the coach told Evonne's mum that she has potential and should start playing tennis.

She moved to Sydney when she was 14 to receive professional training.

Evonne Goolagong turned pro at the age of 19 and won 7/21 of her tournaments.
