Events of World War II

  • The Third Reich

    Hitler Builds up Germany’s army in preparation for his plan. Hitler later then establishes Germany’s new Empire, the Third Reich.
  • Italy Expands

    Benito Mussolini decides to expand Italy’s empire to where they failed before. Mussolini invades Ethiopia and conquers land for Italy.
  • Violation oh the Treaty of Versailles

    Hitler begins to break the treaty signed with the League of Nations. The League decides to do nothing, but kick Germany out of the League.
  • America Isolates

    America decides to sign a treaty of isolationism, saying that they will not get involved with the impending threat in Europe. Isolationism is when a country decides to not get involved in a war.
  • Axis Powers and Soviet Relations

    Hitler unifies Germany, Italy, and Japan to become the Axis Powers. Germany signs a nonagression-pact with the Soviet Union, allowing no fight on two fronts.
  • Germany invades Poland

    After the nonaggression-pact was signed, Hitler moves on to anex the countries promised to him in the pact. Hitler attacks Poland with a new tactic called "Lightning War".
  • Soviets make their move on Europe

    After the pact was signed, Stalin ordered his army to secure the countries promised to him. He ended up with most of the countries East of the U.S.S.R.
  • The Phony War

    After they declared war on Germany, Britain and France mobilized their troops on the French border of Germany. However, Germany came from the north and amushed the defensive line, causing the French and British to fall back.
  • France's Resistance

    After France retreated they continued desperatetly to push the Germans back, but failed. Then at the Battle of Dunkirk, the british saved the French and brought them back to Britain.
  • Germany bombs Britain

    After France and Britain retreat, Germany realizes that Britain is the last free country in Europe that they needed. So Hitler orders that bombers bomb London, the capital, and continue until Hitler stops them, or Britain surrenders.
  • Battle of Britain

    After constant attacks, Britain strikes back and fights. Germany tries to trick them with a fake invasion, but still lost to the British, which gave Britain a hope of freedom.
  • The Axis Powers in North Africa

    After the alliance treaty, Mussolini sends troops to Africa. He instructs them to conquer Egypt's oil fields.
  • The Desert Fox

    With Mussolini's troops nearing surrender, Hitler sends allies to aid the Italians. They win and conquer Egypt and the British command city, Tobruk.
  • Hitler invades the Balkans

    Hitler wanted to secure land in the USSR, but he needed to secure all acces points into Russia. Hitler invaded the last few countries surrounding the USSR and conquered them.
  • Germany attacks the U.S.S.R.

    Once Hitler had all ways into Russia secured, he sent his troops into Russia to secure the cities. His army surrounded Leningrad, which killed many civilians there.
  • The USSR Fights Back

    When Hitler's Army marched toward Moscow, they were struck with an ambush. General Gerogi Zhukov and the Winter storm of Russia, drove out the Germans and gave win for the Russians.
  • Pearl Harbor

    The Americans knew when the attack by Japan was going to happen, but not where. After the bombings, 18 ships were damaged, 2400 Americans killed and nearly 1000 wounded.
  • The Battle of Midway

    The Battle of Midway was considered America's revenge for Pearl Harbor. After a big fight with the Japanese, the Americans won, which gave them an advantage in to the Japanese Empire.
  • The Battle of El Alamein

    Even though the Allies and Axis powers had strong offense and defensive lines, they retreated over miles of land in Egypt. To secure victory, the Allies launched Operation: Torch and defeated the Germans in North Africa.
  • Battle of Stalingrad

    Once the Germans surrounded Stalingrad, they starved and bombed it to the breaking point. However they did not, and soon the Winter of Russia drove out the Germans.
  • D-Day

    On June 6, 1944, 3.5 million Allied troops landed on the beaches of Normandy, France. After a long and major land and air battle, the Allies won, pushing back the Germans.

    The Battle of the Bulge

    With the Germans being pushed back, Hitler made a daring decision. He sent a giant tank division to the Allies's base in Western Europe in hopes to stop the advance, it failed and the Allies continued onward.

    Invasion of Nazi Germany

    After the Allies made it to Germany, they surrounded Berlin and the Germans were losing greatly. Hitler in a secure area, married his girlfriend, wrote his last words, and commited suicide. Later, the Third Reich surrendered, becoming V-E Day.

    Battle of Leyte Gulf

    In this battle, the Japanese saw that America was getting closer to Japan. To suppress their advance, the Japanese launched a major attack on the Allies with ships and kamikaze pilots, however they lost and the Japanese lost many men.
  • V-J Day

    After major land battles, the US realized that it would be hard with a land battle on Japanese grounds. So the Americans dropped two atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and then the Japanese surrendered, ending WWII.
