    -23 August, 1942 - 2 February, 1943 -Hitler wanted control of oil fields in Russia and to wipe out Stalingrad, an industrial city -Bombs were dropped every night on Stalingrad, and most wooden building were destroyed -The Soviet Union took advantage of Winter, and attacked the Germans, turning the battle in their favor -Germans surrendered, leaving Russia in control of valuable resources

Eisenhower -Invasion of Axis-controlled North Africa -Opened a second front, Hitler would need to send troops away from the Soviet front to fight in Africa, which would help Stalin -Allied victory, boosts morale among troops, they were able to beat General Rommel, known by many as the Desert Fox

Eisenhower -Allies' plan to invade France at Normandy and free Western Europe from Nazi control -Allies were well prepared with soldiers and supplies -Allied forces dropped behind German lines and arrived from ships, making this the largest land-sea-air operation in army history -Fighting lasted for many months, in the end, the Allies were able to free France, Belgium, and Luxembourg -Helped FDR win a fourth election
