    Summerfest

    Summerfest was a combination of numerous different festivals throughout the month of August, mostly held in downtown Edmonton and Old Strathcona, along the North Saskatchewan River. Participating groups included Jazz City, Fringe Theatre Events, Edmonton Folk Music Festival, Muttart Conservatory and the Chinook Touring Theatre. The Merry Widow was performed Aug. 12, 13 and 14, while H.M.S. Pinafore was performed Aug. 19, 20 and 21, 1982.

    Edmonton Opera on Tour travelled to Prince George (May 24), Fort St. John (May 27), Dawson Creek (May 28), Calgary (May 30) and Edmonton (May 31) to perform La Bohème. The touring company, a resident company of rising young singers, started in 1973 and travelled across the province. The touring company folded in 1983, when the main company was in deficit. Cast included John Mitchell, Helene McDonald, Susan Skinner and Richard Margison.
