Edgar's mother died of tuberculosis and his father abandond him. He was adopted by John and Frances Allan. As a sign or respect, they gave Edgar their last name as his middle name. He is now known as "Edgar Allan Poe". -

Published First book and joined the U.S. Army
Poe has been back in the US since age 11. Poe drops out of school because John Allan won't give him any money.

Poe writes "The Fall of the House of Usher".
"Tales of the Grotesque and Arabesque", Poe's first volume of short stories, is published. He receives no money from the publisher.
He is struggling to make any kind of living financially. -
Poe Dies
