Comenius was the person who created the first picture book. It was essentially a guide for teachers to help them and give them training. His main beliefs were that education should include all the senses and that education should have a social aspect to it to help children grow in other ways than just being smart.

Robert Owen was an industrialist and a self made businessman who was trying to create the ideal community. Owen believed that naturally people were good inside but over time they had been changed by harsh and poor treatment through child labor. He presented his idea to the British House of Commons and they then let him take over the building process of a school in New Landmark. Even though his school didn't end up making it his ideas were still spread all over the world and continued to be used.

German was the first country to have kindergarten. Kindergarten has gone through many social changes throughout the years. At first it was for poor students and then it went to be led by churches. The kindergarten we know today is the first grade that students enter when they go to school to help them become more independent and prepared for the following grades.

John Locke wrote and published an essay that explained that when children are born they are not born with pre-determined goals or experience. This means that when people are born they essentially have a “clean slate” to do and experience what they choose.

High Scope was a study that measured how effective preschool education was for low income children and if it helped them all the way through adulthood. The test ended up showing that the kids who attended preschool outperformed those who hadn't. The test also showed that the children who had higher quality education didn't need as much help later on in their school and it made teachers realize just how important it was to step in if kids with lower quality education needed help early on.

Head start was a program whose main purpose was to try and provide education to a diverse population of people who were low income. 7 years later it was changing into a half day all year program that included health services and teacher-parent collaboration.

Throughout the years technology has been slowly introduced around the world but when it reached children people realized that it needed to be taken into consideration. While technology can be helpful for children it can also cause some problems as well. Media and technology pushes children into adulthood way too fast because of how much it is used. This is not considered a good thing because having a childhood is one of the best things a child can experience.

The No Child Left Behind legislation was passed in 2002 and it helped improve schooling forever. It is a standardized test that is given to all students through federal funds. The test then gives back information about the students academically and then that helps teachers give students the education they need.
