He was the first republican president. This is an important event because he was a major part in the abolishment of slavery and they civil war.

It isn't considered a true treaty, but they agreed that if they could go home and keep possession of their horses, and sidearms that they would not fight again and surrender their weapons.

It was adopted a generous time after, but was already wildly known by the public. It was importsnt because it was very inspiring for not only the soldiers, but the public too.
