Stalin wanted the U.S and Britain to invade France and Roosevelt was eager to agree to this plan, however, Churchill was hesitant and unsure of the consequences of trying to invade a country like France.

    The Manhattan Project & The Potsdam Conference

    Fearing that Germans would develop the atomic bomb, U.S government launched the Manhattan Project which was a program focused on developing and testing atomic energy and creating a weapon to flatten entire cities. Potsdam Conference near Berlin was where President Truman received word that the Manhattan project had successfully tested an atomic bomb. Stalin nodded in agreement with what the Americans had accomplished and hoped Americans would make good use of it.

    On August 6, the U.S dropped atomic bombs on Hiroshima, Japan. On August 9, the U.S dropped more atomic bombs on Nagasaki, Japan. Shortly after Japan surrendered to the US. and aboard the battleship USS Missouri, Japanese delegates officially signed their surrender to the U.S WWII was over.

    Korean War

    The North Koreans launched an attack on Seoul which fell to the communists in 1950. The UN then passed resolutions demanding that N Korea cease hostilities and withdraw its armed forces to the 38th parallel. Fighting continued between North Korea and the Republic of Korea with each constantly crossing the 38th parallel line into each other’s territories. Finally, on July 27, 1953, an armistice agreement was signed by the Soviet Union in the U.S. Overal 1.5 million lives were lost.
