during 2024 leading up to the election social media for the election for Donald Trump and Kamala Harris was heavily used by both campaigns and also by supporters voicing their opinion which made it seem like you saw stuff about the election a lot throughout the year. also for these campaigns 2024 was the most money used for political contributions which I believe social media plays a big role in getting people/corporation to spend money and donate. -
in January of this year TikTok was set to be banned bu the US government for concerns of foreign governments collecting data on Americans and this caused a lot of backlash from Americans with them not agreeing with the ban which eventually got pushed back. A lot of people used TikTok and other social media platforms to argue against the ban. -
Social media now more than ever has a lot of Ai generated content and also Ai integrated features into social media platforms and while some of these things are good it still has a lot of work to do and I think the biggest effect if whether content or news if fake with Ai being able to look so real and be able to manipulate people. So people have to be careful using Ai and when they see Ai content
