    King Louis's wife, Marie Antoinette, an Austrian. She married the king in 1770, and is known by all for her extravagant spending and oblivion to the state of her people. She was given the nickname Madame Deficit for all the money she spends, specifically on her dramatic hairstyles.

    A text written by a woman named Olympe de Gouges, a French playwright. The text is a protest to the Declaration of Rights of Men, formatted in the same way as the Document, but paralleled, showign the equal rights that the women of France deserved.

    King Louis attempted to tax the nobles to fund his wars and lifestyle. The Estates General met in Versailles for the first time in 175 years. The third estate(poor citizens) demands change, but are locked out of the discussion room.

    The people of France hear that an army is on it's way to Versaille. Panic and anger spreads all around, so they take any weapons they can find and make their way to the Bastille. French citizens attack the palace in a rage, killing guards and putting their heads on stakes. This moment in history is what spreads the revolution further than ever.

    The Declaration of The Rights of Men

    In August of 1789, the "Declaration of Rights of Men" was written. This is a document raised from the ideals of Enlightenment, written by Abbe Sieyes and Marquis de Lafayette. Although the declaration granted liberty, property, and resistance against oppression to all it applied to, it only applied to French men who were capable of paying 3 work days of taxes, and were 25 and older.

    In early October of 1789, the working-class women of Paris had enough of the shortage and high prices of bread, and unfair treatment. They storm the palace of Versaille, going after the king and queen. Louis and Marie are escorted by the raging crowd to the Tuileries Palace in Paris, where their power will start to fade.
