  • The Russian Revolution

    There was two Russian Revolutions in 1917, one in March the other in October. The first revolution was to overthrow the current Russian leader known as Tsar, then replace him with a democratic based government. The Second revolution in Octber of 1917 was by supporters of communism and they overthrew the recently instated democratic government to set in place the current rule over Russia known as Communism.
  • Soviet Bomb Test

    The Soviet Bomb Test was the developement of nuclear weapons in the Soviet Union authorized by Joseph Stalin.
  • The Potsdam Conference

    In 1945, the United States, Great Britian, and the Soviet Union created and met at the Potsdam Conference to discuss European affairs post World War 2. They were specifically discussing how to handle Germany since they started World War 2, post-war boundries, securing lasting peace, and how to end the war with Japan.
  • America's Atomic Bomb dropped on Hiroshima/Nagasaki

    In an attempt to force the of end World War 2, President Truman ordered an atmic bomb be dropped on the Japanese city of Hiroshima. This saved thousands of American lives that would have been lost if they attemted a land invasion of Japan. After three days, a second atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki, another Japanse city. The Soviet Union felt threatened after the atomis bob droppings because they didn't expect America's readiness to use the bombs.
  • Stalin's Iron Curtain

    The Soviet Union attempted to put up an Iron Curtain seperating Russia and it's satellite states from Western Europe and possible threats from the west from countries such as the United States.
  • The Berlin Blockade

    The Berlin Blockade instated by Russia was the first international crisis on the Cold War. The Soviet Union blocked all roadways, waterways, and railways both in an out of the German city of Berlin. The main goal of the blockade was to force western countries out of Berlin and to starve the citizens that lived there.
  • The Molotov Plan

    A system created by the Soviet Union to provide financial aid to help rebuild countries allied with the Soviet Union in Eastern Europe.
  • Hollywood 10

    10 members of the Hollywood film business were accused supporting communism and siding with the Soviet Union. they were called to a trial and refused to testify.
  • Truman Doctrine

    The Truman Doctrine was a major change in America's foreign policy, which stated that the United States would gve financial and other aid to countries that were treatened by Russian Communist expansion.
  • The Marshall Plan

    The United States economic plan to financially aid European countries after World War ll. America supplied Europe with $13 million to help rebuild countries in Europe.
  • Berlin Airlift

    Post World War ll, the Soviet Union blockaded the eastern sector of Berlin from supplies and aid getting through from west Germany by blocking roadways and railways. In result, the United States used military planes to drop supplies behind the blockade in East-Germany, they were never attacked.
  • NATO

    NATO stands for the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and is a intergovernmental military alliance between 29 countries including North America and Eurpean countries in the North Atlantic region of the world.
  • Alger Hiss Case

    Alger Hiss was an American Government official accused of being a spy for the Soviet Union. He was prosecuted and convicted of pergury based off of the spy allegation.
  • Korean War

    The Korean War was between North and South Korea, the war began when the North invaded the South and was followed by a series of border altercations.
  • Rosenburg Trial

    Julius and Ethel Rosenburg were accused of being spies for the Soviet Union for sending classified information about the United States only nuclear weapon in the world. They were soon convicted and executed.
  • Army-McCarthy Hearings

    The Army-McCarthy hearings were a series of hearings to held by the Unites States Senate's Subcommittee to investigate conflicting accusations between the United States Army and U.S. Senater Joseph McCarthy.
  • Battle of Dien Bien Phu

    The first major confrontation in the first Indochina War between the French army and the communist-nationalists the Viet Minh.
  • Geneva Conference

    Conference of many countries on how to end and handle the Korean War and the First Indochina War
  • Warsaw Pact

    In response to the creation of NATO, the Soviet Union of Eastern Europe made the Warsaw Pact.
  • Hungarian Revolution

    The Hungarian Revolution was a nation-wide revolt against the communist government and Soviet laws.
  • U2 Incident

    During the Cold War, an American U2 spy plane was shot down while it was flying/spying on the Soviet Union, when spying was highly illegal.
  • Bay of Pigs Invasion

    The United States launched an atempted raid of Cuba from the Bay of Pigs, it failed miserably.
  • Berlin Wall

    The Berlin Wall was a heavily gaurded concrete wall seperating West and east Germanies capital of Berlin. The wall was instated by the Soviet Union to keep East Berlin citizens from excaping communism.
  • Cuban Missile Crisis

    The Cuban Missile Crisis was the installment of nuclear weapons from communist Soviet Union of the Communist country of Cuba, which was close enough to attack the United States with nuclear weapons and missiles.
  • Assassination of Diem

    The capture and assassination of Diem, the Presisent of South Vietnam was a successful operation by the leader of North Vietnam, Durong Van Minh.
  • Assassination of MLK

    The assassination of MLK, the renowned leader for civil rights for African Americans, took place in Memphis Tennessee.
  • Assassination of JFK

    The assassination of JFK, the United States President, took place in Dallas Texas during a parade.
  • Tolkin Gulf Resolution

    Congress passed the Tolkin Gulf Resolution, which gave President Johnson the power to do as much as he needed to win the War.
  • Tet Offensive

    The organized attqck of the Viet Cong on American troops stationed in Vietnam for the War. Our military caught off gaurd due to the thought of no attacks during Vietnamese holiday.
  • Operation Rolling Thunder

    Title of gradual and sustained aerial assault on Vietnam by the United States. America dropped millions of bombs on Vietnam.
  • Assassination of RFK

    The assassination of RFK, possibly the next President of the United States, was assassinated in Las Angles
  • Invasion of Czechislovakia

    The joint invasion of Czechislovakia by 5 Warsaw Pact Countries.
  • Riots of Democratic Convention

    Protesters in Chicago violently go against the police in the protest of the Vietnam War, while the Democratic party falls apart due to internal dissagreement.
  • Election of Nixon

    The republican nominee for President in the 1968 election
  • Kent State

    The National gaurd opened fire on Kent State protesters that were protesting the Vietnam War.
  • Nixon Visits China

    The U.S. President Richard Nixon visited communist China was an important strategic and and diplomatic action to try and build ties between the two countries.
  • Ceasefire in Vietnam

    President Nixon orders a ceasefire of bombing North Vietnam, due to the creation of a rough draft peace proposal.
  • Fall of Saigon

    The fall of Saigon was the capital city of South Vietnam being captured by communist North Vietnam.
  • Reagan Elected

    Ronald reagan was elected to serve as the United States 40th President.
  • SDI Announcement

    SDI stands for the Strategic Defence Initiative was a proped missile defensive intended to protect the United States from missile attacks by the Soviet Union.
  • Geneva Conference with Gorbachev

    This meeting produced no major resulotions in the Cold War, however it did instate a bond between Reagan and Gorbachev.
  • 'Tear Down this Wall' Speech

    President reagan gave a speech in West Berlin talking directly towards Gorbachev to tear down the Berlin Wall dividing democratic and communist berlin.
  • Fall of Berlin Wall

    The destruction of the Berlin Wall by the Soviet Union freeing thousands from communist control in Eastern Europe.
