Cleopatra began a relation with Mark Antony, one of the most powerful leaders in Rome. This alliance was key both politically and militarily, as it sought to protect Egypt's independence from Rome. Together they had children and ruled eastern territories, which caused a confrontation with Octavian, the future Roman emperor. -
Cleopatra and Mark Antony were defeated by Octavian's forces at the Battle of Actium, a decisive naval engagement. This defeat marked the end of his political and military power, leaving Egypt vulnerable to Rome and paving the way for its conquest. -
After the definitive defeat against Octavian and the death of Mark Antony, Cleopatra committed suicide to avoid being captured and exhibited in Rome. With his death the Ptolemaic dynasty ended and Egypt became a province of the Roman Empire, losing its independence.
