    Union Naval Blockade

    Lincoln order the Union blockade of the Southern ports. The blockade proficiently stopped ships from entering or leaving the Southern ports, therefore, the Southerns understood how it felt when they didn't have anything, there were nothing in stores. There arms and ammunition could not be imported and adequate medicine and hospital equipment were out of stock, they had limited resources. Even cotton they're source of money couldn't be exported.

    Union fort in Charleston, South Carolina. The Confederates shot the first bullet for Civil War and Confederates won.

    The first battle of the Civil War. Volunteers joined to help the Confederacy, they were untrained but still helped. They fled to Washington D.C. and the Confederacy won.
  • Trent Affair

    The confederacy emissaries James Mason to Britain and John Slidell to France. A Union ship captured both men and took them to Boston as prisoners.
  • Battle of Shiloh

    Battle of Shiloh

    This battle was between Ulysses Grant and Albert Sydney Johnston in Tennessee. Johnston attacked Grant while they were resting, they fought for two days. It was a Union victory because of the help of Don Carlos Buell and the Confederates retreat.
  • Battle of Antietam

    The first major battle to take place on Northern soil. It was a single day battle. The Union won after McClellan let Lee retreat to Virginia. After this win, Lincoln had the opportunity to issue the Emancipation Proclamation.

  • Battle of Fredericksburg

    General Burnsides attacked Lee, and ordered a two pronged Union attack. The Union lost miserably.

    The Vicksburg campaign was a series of battles during the Civil War. Vicksburg, Mississippi was the last section of the River the Confederates could control after the battle of Chancellorsville when the Confederate lost control over the Mississippi River to the Union.

    Union forces wanted to capture Vicksburg in order to gain control over the Mississippi River. Grant surrounded Vicksburg and bombed it for a month. The Confederates starved until they surrendered. Then the Union took control of the River.

    This Battle was named after the town they fought in. General George Meade led an army to victory against the confederate army. The battle is famous because it was a huge battle were many people lost their lives, it was in the north, and people came for Lincoln's Gettysburg Address as well.
