    The Supreme Court ruled that separating children in public schools on the basis of race was unconstitutional. The people involved were Oliver Brown, and NAACP. Took place in Kansas-also South Carolina, Virginia, Delaware, District of Columbia.
  • Murder of Emmett Till

    Murder of Emmett Till

    Emmett Till was killed because he whistled at a White Woman. The people involved were Carolyn Bryant, Ray Bryant, and J.W. Milan. Took place in Money, Mississippi.
  • Rosa Parks and the Bus Boycott

    Rosa Parks and the Bus Boycott

    Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat and was imprisoned. Took place in Montgomery, Alabama.
  • Southern Christian Leadership Conference

    Southern Christian Leadership Conference

    In Atlanta Georgia the SCLC was an organization linked to the black churches. 60 black ministers were pivotal in organizing civil right activism. Martin Luther King Jr was elected President. They focused its non violent strategy on citizenship, schools and efforts to desegregate individual cities. It played key roles in the March on Washington in 1963 and the Selma Voting Rights Campaign and March to Montgomery in 1965. The people involved were MLK, 60 black ministers, and a Civil rights leader.

    4 college students wanted to go to school but were denied by National Guard. They decided to desegregate the school. Took place in Greensboro, North Carolina.
  • Ruby Bridges

    Ruby Bridges

    One of 4, 6 year old black children pass a hard test to go to a white school. Ruby Bridges was escorted by Federal Marshals, to be the only student taught by one teacher. Took place in New Orleans, Louisiana.
  • Freedom Riders

    Freedom Riders

    A total of 27 freedom riders boarded the buses safely, accompanied by the Alabama National Guard, which, to the riders, defeated the purpose of challenging segregated seating on the bus. They were all arrested in Jackson in the bus depot for violating segregation statutes and were taken to jail. Took place in the southern states.
  • March on Washington

    March on Washington

    Peaceful and Respectful protest for job and freedom. Martin Luther King gave his “I have a Dream” speech. It was the last speech of the day. 250,000 people were involved. Took place in Washington D.C.

    A man rushed forward and shot him once in the chest with a sawed-off shotgun and 2 other men charged the stage firing semi-automatic handguns. The people involved were Thomas Hagan-Norman 3x Butler, Thomas 15x Johnson. Took place in New York - Audubon Ballroom.

    Was to raise awareness for voting rights act. State troopers and county members violently attacked marchers, leaving them injured and bloodied.SCLC - Jon Lewis was involved. Took place in Selma, Alabama.

    Banned literacy text, poll tax voting is a federal matter not a state matter. LBJ was involved. Took place in Washington D.C.
  • Assassination of MLK

    Assassination of MLK

    MLK was fatally shot at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee, on April 4, 1968, at 6:01 p.m. CST. He was rushed to St. Joseph's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7:05 p.m at age 39. James Earl Ray was involved. Took place in Memphis, Tennessee - Loraine Motel.
