Civil rights timeline

  • Brown Vs. Board of Education

    The person involved was Oliver Brown. It took place in Kansas and a few other states. This resulted in an overturn 9-0.
  • Emmitt Till

    This involved Carolyn Bryant who was 21 years old, Roy Bryant, J.W. Milan. It took place in Money, Mississippi. What occurred was that a white woman was whistled at.
  • Rosa Parks

    One day a women named Rosa Parks got on a bus. She didn’t want to give up her seat when told. This took place in Montgomery, Alabama. She ended up getting arrested for refusing to get up.
  • SCLS

    Martin Luther King along with sixty black ministers were part of an organization. This organization linked to church as organizing paces for civil rights activism. This took place in Atlanta, Georgia.
  • Southern Christian leadership conference

    The SCLC was an organization linked to the black churches. 60 black ministers were pivotal in organizing civil right activism. Martin Luther King Jr was elected President. They focused its non violent strategy on citizenship, schools and efforts to desegregate individual cities. It played key roles in the March on Washington in 1963 and the Selma Voting Rights Campaign and March to Montgomery in 1965.
  • Little Rock 9

    It involved 9 black students. And this event took place in Rock, Arkansas. They were able to go to a normal school.
  • Greensboro

    It was a group of black people. They started protesting for being denied service in a diner. And took place in North Carolina.
  • Ruby Bridges

    Ruby Bridges was a black girl who passed a test to go to a white school. She was the only one being taught by the teacher she had. This took place in New Orleans, Louisiana
  • Freedom Riders

    They were a group of Activists. This was in the Southern part of the United States. They wanted to make a statement that segregated buses were unconstitutional.
  • March on Washington

    This event involved 250,000 people. It took place in Washington D.C. on August 28, 1963. It was a protest to their jobs and freedom.
  • Civil Rights Act

    This event took place in Washington on July second, 1964. Martin Luther King Jr. was involved with this event. The reason for the event to happen was to prevent racial discrimination.
  • Malcom X

    The Malcolm X event took place in New York. Thomas Hagan was also involved with all of this. At the end of it, Malcom X was killed.
  • Selma

    This event was involved with the SCLC. The location of this was at Selma, Alabama. People were doing a march and got killed for it.
  • Voting Acting Rights

    Lyndon B. Johnson was involved in this event that took place in the 1960s. This event was caused because people of color were getting their voting rights denied. And this took place in Washington.
  • Assassination of Martin Luther King Jr.

    This event was a sad day and took place in Memphis, Tennessee. Martin Luther King Jr. was giving a speech and got shot while giving it. The shooter was named James Earl Ray and the FBI wanted to stop MLK.
