Emmett Till was in a small town in Mississippi visiting family, while he was there he allegedly was flirting with white women. And for this he was brutally beaten to death at only the age of 14. His death is what sparked the Civil Rights Movement. -
Rosa Parks Arrest
Rosa Parks was arrested for refusing to give up her seat to a white bus rider and for this she was charged with disorderly conduct. But Mrs. Parks and the NAACP brought the issue to the Supreme Court and in 1956 public buses were desegregated. -

The Little Rock Nine Intervention was when 9 African American students were enrolled at Little Rock High School, but were denied entry into the school by the governor of Arkansas. So the Federal Government had to intervene by escorting the students to class. -

Medgar Evers shooting
The 37 year old Medgar Evers was walking home from a NAACP meeting when he was shot, the man who murdered him was not convicted until 1994. His death increased the awareness of the Civil Rights issues. -
March on Washington / I Have a Dream Speech
The famous speech by Doctor King was delivered at the Lincoln Memorial during the March on Washington, for the purpose of having rights be guaranteed and respected, also job opportunitys being taken away because of race. -
16th Street Baptist Church Bombing
The 16th Street Baptist Church Bombing was done by a group of white supremacist, the attack resulted in the death of 4 children. This event encouraged the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and the Civil Rights Movement as a whole. -
Freedom Summer
The Freedom Summer was a voter registration protest where thousands went to register to vote as black voters in Mississippi, and for this the protesters faced extreme violence and threats from racists. This protest encouraged the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. -

The assassination of Malcolm X was done by members of the Nation of Islam. His death meant the loss of a key leader in the Civil Rights Movement, and the OAAU. -

The Black Panther Party was formed in California by Huey P. Newton and Bobby Seale. The party's beliefs were that African Americans should be allowed to bear arms, protect themselves, and ect. -
The Assassination of Doctor Martin (Formerly known as Michael) Luther King Junior
James Earl Ray assassinated King in Memphis, Tennessee at the Lorraine Motel. The death of King sparked riots and outrage for his death across the entire U.S. and marked the end of The Civil Rights Movement. King was also one of the main leaders of the Civil Rights Movement and died at the young age of 39.
