This court case was huge and very important in civil rights history. This court case overturned Plessy v. Ferguson. This meant that black citizens could no longer be segregated and allowed black children to go to a white school. Oliver Brown, father of Linda Brown, and a NAACP lawyer were involved in this case. 7 black children were escorted into the school whilst an angry white mob gathered around them.

14 year old Emmett Till was visiting family in Mississippi when he whistled at a white woman. The woman’s husband, Roy Bryant, and J.W. Milan, kidnapped, tortured, and murdered the 14 year old black child. His body was found and they were taken to trial where they then admitted to these crimes but were acquitted by the all white jury. The mother had an open casket funeral to show all the people what they had done to her son.

Rosa parks was a black activist best known for her bravery on the bus. She refused to move and give up her seat during a time when this was a dangerous decision. This seemingly small act sparked a huge change in the civil rights movement and led to the betterment of the country. Segregation was on track to soon become a thing of the past. Unfortunately, she was not credited or recognized with this achievement until the last few years of her life.

Martin Luther King Jr and 60 other black minister civil rights leaders met in Atlanta Georgia. During this, the group SCLC was organized and formed by the black churches. They led major protests such as the Montgomery Bus Buycotts and other important events.

9 black students from Little Rock Arkansas were transferred to a white school. A giant mob of angry white people formed around the students in protest of their integration into the white school. The 9 black students were chosen and selected by the NAACP for their outstanding and impressive academic performance.

4 black student sat in a lunch counter and were refused service for their skin color. In protest to this, they sat in chairs and refused to move unless they were served. People across the country began participating in sit ins as well as a result of this.

Ruby was a black 6 year old girl who was the first African American child to be integrated into a white school. Many white parents would pull their kids out of that school for that one reason. An angry white mob was formed outside the school and Ruby had to be escorted in by marshals.

436 individuals and several groups such as CORE, SNCC, and NAACP engaged in freedom bus rides from Washington D.C. to Louisiana. During these rides the buses were attacked and destroyed by angry white mobs. Many black people were injured in the 60 separate rides in which these took place.

More than 250,000 people joined in a march on Washington D.C.. This was a peaceful and respectful protest in which Martin Luther King Jr would give his famous “I Have A Dream” speech. This speech was given next to the Lincoln Memorial.

Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act into effect. This made the government prevent any discrimination in both private business and public facilities. This took place in Washington D.C.

Malcolm X was a famous civil rights activist who was assassin aged in the Audubon Ballroom, NY. The people involved in his assassination were Thomas Hagan, Norman 3xButler, and Thomas 15x Johnson.

Alabama troops in Selma attacked protesters participating in the peaceful march. This was televised and brought attention to the mistreatment of African Americans during these times to more people.

President Lyndon B. Johnson signed this into effect. The act banned poll tax and literacy tests before voting. It also made voting a federal right rather than a state right.

MLKJ was assassinated by James Earl Ray. However, there is speculation around his innocence. People believe that he was merely used as a scapegoat for the crime. MLKJ was shot in the Memphis Tennessee Loraine Motel by a sniper’s bullet.
