    What it was- Nine African American boys were riding a train car illegally and were convicted of raping 2 white women. They were eventually all freed but most did not live good lives afterwards. Why it was significant- This case caused courts to start including African Americans into their jury pools. This was a significant change for the equal treatment of African Americans.
  • The Murder of Emmett Till

    The Murder of Emmett Till

    What it was- The unjust murder of a 14 year old African American boy who whistled at a white lady. He was in house of his great-uncle when he was kidnapped in the middle of the night and then murdered. Why it was significant- This event was the moment that started the civil rights movement. Emmett Till is called the sacrificial lamb of the Civil Rights Movement.
  • The Little Rock Nine

    The Little Rock Nine

    What it was- A group of nine African American students who were personally selected to attend the previously all white Little Rock Central High School. They faced massive mobs and mass amounts of hateful speech when walking to school.
    Why it was significant- This was a major turning point in the Civil Rights Movement. It started a nationwide movement for the integration of schools and showed that the government was true to their words on helping with it.
