  • The Civil Rights Act of 1866

    The purpose of this act was to ensure citizenship to all people born in the United States to have certain unalienable rights.
  • Ku Klux Klan Act

    In an attempt to protect Black men this act was enacted to allowed the president to give out a suspension of a writ of habeas corpus. This meant that Klan members could be detained with out coming in front of a court of law.
  • Civil Rights Act of 1875

    It prohibited Racial discrimination in public facilities such as restaurants and public transportation.
  • Civil Rights Act of 1957

    The law set up a Commission on Civil Rights to investigate civil rights violations. It also set a Civil Rights division with in the department of justice. Its final addition was authorizing the prosecution to those who had violated the right to vote for United States citizen's.
  • Civil Rights Act of 1960

    The law established federal inspection of local voter registration polls and introduced penalties to those who attempted to block voter registration.
  • Civil RIghts Act of 1964

    This law made it so the discrimination on race, color, sex, national origin, sexual orientation and gender identity were illegal. This also applied to hiring, promotion or firing.
  • Civil Rights Act of 1965

    It prohibited the discriminatory voting practices that were rampant in the south.
  • Fair Housing Act

    This law prohibits the discrimination concerning the sale, rental or financing of homes based upon the person's race, religion, national, origin and sex
