Haywood Patterson was never paroled – he escaped prison in 1948 and moved to Michigan. They called the boys 'black fiends' and 'Negro brutes'.

Players and staff wear the number 42 till this day to remember Robinson's impact, and it was retired in 1997. He is buried in Cypress Hills Cemetery in Brooklyn, New York.
