Civil rights act of 1866
The civil rights bill of 1866 is one of the earliest civil right pieces of legislation that finally recognized all African Americans as US citizens. -

The NAACP was a group set to help the black communities and give support to those who have been discriminated against. -
Tulsa massacare
Event where white supremisists burnt and lynched people because a women was “assaulted” in an elevator by a black man. This event lead to hundreds of deaths and injury’s and blocks left destroyed. -

First school integration
Arkansas was the first state to start to enforce black integration into schools. Though there were attempts t do it before it was blocked by white suppremisists. Later Kennedy mandated that the kids would be walked for the first day. -
Little Rock nine
Little Rock nine was when the first school to have integration causing backlash and breaking the color barrier in America for the first time. -
Civil rights incidents
The south was where the majority of discrimination happened and often white supremisists would hurt or injure black people leading to spikes in civil rights related accidents. -
Discrimination in the south
The south through history was a place of extreme discrimination and hated to black people because they were formerly enslaved and the south heavily hated they were free, this went on from late 1700s and even before until around 1960s. -
Greensborrow sit in
This was the first sit ins attended by over 1 000 people over a few days and about 300 people were arrested at the events. -
Nashville sit in
The Nashville sit ins was the most successful sit ins attended over a few moths span because it caused many stored to desegregate and finally welcome others of color. -
First freedom rides
Activists who challenged the new laws on segregation in busses, where it was outlawed on transportation. All of the freedom riders were arrested. -
Birmingham bus attack
The incident was an event lead by the KKK and white suppremisists to hurt and destroy one of the first freedom bus rides. -
Letter from the Birminghamham jail
Letter wrote by MLK Jr to show support for those still protesting and to tell others to keep the peace despite him being arrested and him still seeing police violence. -
The children’s crusade
The children’s crusade was a event held by mostly students and was a peaceful protest for civil rights, but it ended in many people being hurt and beat by police. -

Often younger people would participate in the civil rights movement because they often saw discrimination in diffrent ways then past generations leading to black people wanting more change in the law. -
March on washington
Thousands of civil rights activists and leaders gathered to support the movement and gain support for those who have been heavily discriminated against, and finally give citizens rights they deserved. -

Kings speech shows how he and his family went from suffering to being in a more prosperous situation but he is still being oppressed by the law years after freedom. -

During this speech king cites how his family was not rich or had much wealth because of oppression. He cites how his family did not have a equal opportunity’s as others in America and that’s what he is fighting for. -
March on Washington
This was an event lead by thousands of activists and civil right movement supporters to gain the attention of the government to support the rights of black people and finally pass anti-discrimination laws. -
16th street Baptist bombing
This was a directed white supremisists terror attack on a black church where 4 kids were killed and several were left injured. -
Civil rights support during the movment
During the civil rights movement support for the movement grew to more than half the country supporting the movement. But still even after all the progress a little less than half the country still heavily discriminated against black people. -

Event held by over 25 000 where they peacefully marched to the capital of Montgomery. Though many were arrested and beat on the way. -

MLK during the marches shows his resiliency and all the others to the hostile events that have happened during the movement. This also demonstrates how they still remained peaceful during extremely difficult times. -
voting rights act of 1965
One of the most important pieces of government legislation that finally gave black people the right to vote by removing barriers that made it difficult for those of color to vote. -

Affirmative action was the result of discrimination in America where those who have been discriminated against were given additional opportunities and support. -

Chicago marches held by MLK to show support and attempt to solve the discrimination in Chicago for black home buyers. -
Assasination of MLK Jr
This was a significant event that changed civil rights because it showed his dedication to the movement, and that is why he was assasinated on his balcony. -
Fair housing act of 1968
Only a few days after Kings assasination the fair housing act was sighed making all discrimination prohibited for those buying homes despite race, gender, ETC. -
Roe v wade
this event gave women the civil right to finally choose to do what they want with there own body’s and was a massive progression to women’s rights. -

Modern movement that helped build the black communities t be stronger against vuolemce, and called for peaceful protests that encouraged and built the community as a whole. -

The laws needed during diffrent periods show how black discrimination over time has bee fixed though still discrimination exists after major laws have beeen passed. -
