  • Church of Satan is Established

    The Church of Satan is established by Anthony LaVey in the Black House in San Francisco, California

  • Satanic Bible is Published

    The Satanic Bible is the central religious text of the Church of Satan and LaVeyan Satanism overall. LaVeyan Satanism is the orientation of the Church of Satan, named for and created by the Church's founder, Anthony LaVey.

  • Documentary "Satanis" is Made

    A documentary about the religion is created. The documentary shows ritual practices of the religion and includes interviews with people close to Anthony LaVey.

  • Religious Rituals Move Locations

    The weekly rituals of the Church of Satan moved from being held at the Black House to local grottos.

  • Regional Organizations of the Religion are Ended

    LaVey declares that any regional organizations of the Church of Satan must end, and all members should report in San Francisco to the Church's Central Grotto.

  • Aquino Leaves the Church

    A high level leader of the Church of Satan, Michael Angelo Aquino, and creates the Temple of Set. Some members of the Church of Satan leave to join the Temple of Set.

  • Anthony LaVey Dies

    Anthony LaVey, the Church's first High Priest, dies.

  • Barton Becomes High Priestess

    Following LaVey's death, Blanche Barton becomes High Priestess, a role which she holds for 4 years.

  • Church Gets New Heads

    Barton gives her position to Peggy Nadramia and Peter H. Gilmore, who remain today as the High Priestess and Priest of the religion.
