Chloe Zhao started school in 1998 at 14 years old where she attended Brighton college which was a boarding school in England. She attended that college from 1998 to 2000. After finishing her college studies she then moved to Los Angeles to finish high school. Then later on after finishing high school she enrolled at Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts which was a all girls college.

Chloe Zhao went to film school at NYU’s Tisch School Of Arts for her graduates degree in film in 2005.

In 2008 Chloe started her career of short films with her first short film tilted “post”and started her graduate studies at NYU shortly after.

In 2009 Chloe released a film tilted “The Atlas Mountains” that she was the writer for before she became a major director. The film is about a unhappily married woman named Helen Thomas who begins a brief but passionate relationship with a immigrant worker.

Chloe directed a film named “daughters” that premiered at the 2010 Palm Springs International Short fest. The film is about a young girl named maple a quiet 14 year old girl who is forced in an arranged marriage. This film received the best student live action short award at the 2010 Palm Springs International Film Festival and also received a special jury prize at the 2010 Cinequest Film Festival.

Chloe’s first feature length film titled “Songs My Brother Taught Me” which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2015.

Chloe Zhao does not have a husband but she is in a long term relationship with Joshua James. They have worked together in several of her films like “The Rider and Nomadland”.
