He was an American abolitionist who was born into a very Quaker family,This man assisted in helping runaway slaves stay at his home and provided them with food clothes and a place to stay,Hopper also organized a network of safe houses for the slaves and grew a web of informants just to spy on what the fugitive slave hunters were doing.Hopper wasn't even a lawyer but would still find legal loopholes to help slaves get freedom through court -
Thaddeus Stevens
He was a Pennsylvania congressman who was anti-slavery,He was a major architect and advocate for the 14th and 15th amendment.He also was part of the underground railroad but secretly with tunnels under his home to help enslaved people get their freedom in Canada, He was the one who proposed the idea to give away southern plantation land to enslaved people who were free but congress wasn't going for that. -

The underground railroad was a series of routes that were used to help enslaved people gain their freedom by bringing them to an anti-slavery state.These routes helped thousands of enslaved people escape slavery,There were conductors like Harriet Tubman and William still who helped many slaves on there journey through the underground railroad and risking their lives.There was also a stationmaster who would help the slaves with food and a place to stay and the most famous one was Levi coffin. -
Nat Turner's Revolution
Nat Turner was an enslaved preacher and self-styled prophet, over the course of a day he and 50 other enslaved people decided they had had enough and started revolting against any white person they came across.55 White men, women and children were killed in this revolt, but the revolting group was eventually overpowered and they had to face trials, The

Abraham lincoln
Abraham Lincoln was an advocate for ending slavery during the 1830's to the 1860's and was against the expansion of slavery but his end goal was to address emancipation through the emancipation act across the countries but he knew what needed to be done in order to achieve his goal.He also helped command troops during the civil war and was very supportive of the 13th amendment.He also let African Americans serve in the military segregated from the others though, to help fight in the civil war -
Fugitive slave act
This act stated that any African American accused of being a runaway slave could be captured.The accused had no way to prove their case since they couldn't testify.This act created a further gap in ending slavery because there was northerners who thought it was a bad idea and the southerners who thought it was a good idea. -
Uncle Tom's cabin
Uncle tom's cabin was a book that was wrote by Harriet Beecher,This book portrayed the horrors of slavery to anyone who hadn't thought that much about it. Northerners who read the book had their perceptions about slavery and African Americans change in a good way. The book sold 2 million copies and the south tried to ban the book because they claimed it was all a sham or they were manipulating you into thinking its bad, this didn't work for them though and the book remained in the south. -
Bleeding Kansas
The state of Kansas had a lot of tension because of one side favoring slavery while the others didn't favor slavery, This resulted in an attack on the town of Lawrence from border ruffians.The border ruffians wrecked news presses,stole from shops and homes, and burned the hotel of the elected free state governor.By the end of 1856 the fighting had stopped but 200 people had died and $2 million dollars worth or property had been destroyed. -
The Caning of Charles Sumner
Charles Sumner was a fiery abolitionist who also happened to be Massachusetts senator and he made a speech that explained why slavery was bad and called out other senators who had owned slaves in front of all the senators and long story short he singled out a senator by the name Andrew Butler and he told his cousin about it which made his cousin angry at Charles which resulted in butlers cousin pulling out his cane and beating Charles Sumner pretty bad which put him out of politics for a while -
John Brown's Harper ferry
John brown and 21 other followers raided a US military arsenal in hopes of taking some of their weapons and starting a slave revolt,Their plan didn't go well though and many of Brown's men were captured or killed and brown himself got wounded and then captured to face trials.The trial was very short and simple and brown faced hanging for the crimes of treason,murder and inciting a slave rebellion.
