Barret- Models of the Atom

  • Dalton's Model

    Dalton's Model
John Dalton discovered that all matter is made up of atoms. All elements are made up of atoms. Its impossible to destroy an atom. John Dalton called it the Billard Ball model. He used different patterns within the circles to see the different elements. Different chemical elements have different kinds of atoms. John Dalton lived from 1766-1844
  • Thomson's Model

    Thomson's Model
Thomson believed the atom was a randomly generated series of electrons swimming around in a positively charged matter. He called it the Plum Pudding Model. Atoms contain particles called electrons. The rest of the atom is a sphere of positive charge. He lived rom 1856-1940
  • Rutherford's Model

    Rutherford's Model
The atom is mostly empty space with a positively charged nucleus surrounded by negative electrons. Electron orbit a positively charged nucleus. Ernest discovered the atom. Rutherford spent most of his academic career researching aspect of radioactivity.
  • Bohr's Model

    Bohr's Model
The atom is a small positively charged nucleus surrounded by waves of electrons. Special positions around the nucleus are called orbits or shells. Model is similar to the solar system. The orbits are associated with define energies also called energy shells or energy levels. Niels was born October 7th 1885.
  • Quantum Model

    Quantum Model
An atom consists of a dense nucleus composed of protons and neutrons surrounded by electrons exist in different clouds of the various energy levels. No two electrons in a single atom can have exactly the same quantum numbers. Orbital quantum numbers show you what energy level the electron is in. He was born in August 12th 1887 and died in January 4th 1961
