Nicolaus Copernicus was born in Poland, he was a Polish astronomer who proposed that the Earth and the other planets revolved around the Sun in a heliocentric system and not, as was thought at the time, in a geocentric system in which the Earth was the centre.
-
It was unthinkable to imagine that the Earth was not the centre of the Universe, Nicolaus Copernicus, thanks to his research, claimed that the Earth was just another of the planets revolving around the Sun. This was an absolute paradigm shift. Heliocentrism is an astronomical model according to which the Earth and planets move around the relatively stationary Sun, which is at the centre of the universe.

Heliocentrism made an essential contribution to changing man's view of his place in the cosmos and initiated a scientific revolution whose impact continues to this day.

Copernicus died of apoplexy, an abrupt onset neurological syndrome that causes cerebral and muscular paralysis.
