    The Brown v. Education case occurred in Topeka, Kansas when a young African American girl was denied admission to her school that was in her neighborhood. It was a landmark from the Supreme Court that took place in 1954.   • Montgomery Bus Boycott

    Montgomery Bus Boycott

    During the Montgomery Bus Boycott their leader was Martin Luther King Jr. They tried to accomplish the decision of a special “Three-judge panel” to help declare all of Alabama’s laws. There effect was that it proved that when Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat on the bus to the white man it proved that any small acts of defiance could empower anybody to create changes.

    Little Rock 9 and The Desegregation of Schools

    In September of 1957, the school board in Little Rock, Arkansas won the court order of having nine African American students to be admitted into Central High school which was a school that had around 2,000 white students. It was effected by how Eisenhower responded by ordering the Army to send their troops to Little Rock. He also federalized the Arkansas National Guard.

    It included the Student Nonviolent Coordination Committee. It effected how they all tried to start a sit-in at the white’s only lunch table until they all got the same serviced as the white people. Later on, many more people started to support their act and then decided to join the 4 original committee members.

    Freedom Riders

    They tried to have all of the African Americans and the whites were asked to travel down South to draw attention to refusal to the integrated bus terminals. It effected how they all got treated, for example, the freedom riders got beaten up by a gang of young men who were armed with baseball bats, pipes, and chains.

    The March on Washington

    Dr. King realized that Kennedy would have the very difficult time pushing out his civil rights bill through Congress so he started to find ways to build more public places and to also get on Congress’s good side. Dr. King was the alternative who received the idea from Phillip Randolph to march on Washington. It was in effect by having the bill called, "The Civil Rights Act of 1964" law passed.

    He had no patience with the very slow progress of civil rights and believed that all African Americans needed to start demanding more equality. After Malcolm X broke with the Nation of Islam, he criticized everything about the organization, which led to one of the members to shoot and kill him.

    The African Americans lived in the poor neighborhoods in the nation’s big time cities which were very overcrowded and dirty which then led to higher rates of illnesses. Many of them found themselves channeled into the low-paying jobs. It was in effect because of the Black Power organization was founded by college students. It followed their views of civil rights and what they believed about the revolution and if it should occur.

    After the Civil Rights Act was passed the voting rights were nowhere near secure. It turns out that the act was focused on segregation and all of the job discriminations instead of focusing on the voting issues that were happening. It was in effect to help protect people's voting rights.
