Jun 22, 1897 Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee 1899 Viceroy Curzon appointed 1905 Swadeshi movement in response to partition of Bengal. Jul 1, 1905 Partition of Bengal announced. Claimed Bengal was too large to administer. Led to strikes, protests and boycotts. Aug 1, 1905 Curzon resigned from backlash of partition and censorship as well as disagreements with Kitchener over Indian military. Oct 1, 1905 Partition of Bengal implemented, divided Bengal into Muslim east and Hindu west. Oct 2, 1905 Viceroy Minto replaces Curzon. 1908 Shivram Paranjape (founder of Kaal) sent to prison for 19 months imprisonment and his newspaper banned. 1909 Minto and secretary of state for India Morley introduced limited programme of reforms, to appease the Bengalis. 1909 Indian Coucils Act: 27 Indians can be elected from constituencies onto Viceroy's council. 1911 Viceroy Hardinge reunited Bengal.
