John Morse Arrives
Lizzie's uncle John Morse arrived in the evening of August 3 and slept in the guest room. -
10:45 am - 10:50 am
Maggie hears Lizzie laughing from presumably upstairs. Seeing as Abby was dead by this time, this laughter is suspicious. Lizzie denies laughing at the trial and claims that her father had asked her where Abby was. -
9:00 am - 10:00 am
Andrew left for his morning walk sometime after 9. Abby Borden went upstairs between 9 and 10:30 to make the bed in the guest room. -
10:30 - 10:45 am
Abby is murdered at this time, before Andrew returns from his walk. When Andrew returns home at 10:30 am, his key doesn't work, Maggie is heard to utter a curse because the door was jammed. -
7:00 am - 8:48 am
John Morse and Andrew Borden chatted after breakfast for an hour. Morse left around 8:48 am to buy a pair of oxen and visit his niece in Fall River, planning to return to the Borden home for lunch at noon. -
10:50 am - 11:10 am
Maggie testifies that she helped Andrew take his boots off and gave him his slippers before he went on the sofa for a nap, but the crime scene photo contradicts this. Maggie tells Lizzie about a department store sale, and Lizzie offers to take Maggie with her, Maggie declines and goes to bed for a nap. -
11:00 am to 11:20 am
Maggie testified that she was in her bedroom, when just before 11:10 am, she heard Lizzie say "Maggie, come quick! Father's dead. Somebody came in and killed him." The family doctor pronounced that his death had occurred at approximately 11:00 am.
