In 1940, a kind Nazi soldier helped Bernard escape the ghetto. Bernard became a Jewish Partisan after that.

Bernard joined the FPO, and helped sabotage railroads, phone lines, and stole supplies from German troops.

In 1944, the Red army liberated Vilna, Poland. The army turned the German soldiers over to the partisans.

On March 24, 2008, Bernard sadly passed away.
