    Seven Years War

    The French and the British both wanted control of the Ohio River Valley to gain access to its trade routes. The French allied with the Native Americans against the British. Fighting began in the colonies and later spread to Europe. The English were victorious.
  • Albany Congress

    The Albany Congress was the meeting of 7 colonial representatives to discuss relations with Native Americans and defense against the French. It was also the first attempt at forming a union.

    An important fort built at a strategic place alongside the La Chute River. It controlled a major river port and trade routes between the British and French.

    They were a serires of laws passed by the Parliament which triggered outrage within the colonies. Parliament punished Massachusetts to make an example of what would happen to those that showed resistance to parliamentary authority.

    Convention of delegates from the 13 colonies that managed the war effort, adopted the Declaration of Independence, and was the national government of what became the United States of America.
  • Battle of Bunker Hill

    Battle against British soldiers that were attempting to occupy hills around Boston. The battle showed that inexperienced colonial soldiers stood a decent chance against trained British soldiers.

    Used by Congress to try to avoid war with Great Britain by stating that America was loyal to Britain and the king.

    Commom Sense was a pamphlet written by Thomas Paine that outlined the reasons for American independence from Great Britain.

    Site of a military camp in Pennsylvania. It was strategically placed to that the colonists could keep raiding the British and still stop any surprise attacks.

    Gave religious freedom and stated that any attempts to restrict it is wrong and hypocritical.

    It was the battle that conclusively decided the fate of General John Burgoyne's army and marked a major turning point in the war.
  • Ratification of the Articles of Confederation

    The Articles of Confederation was the first constitution of the confederation of the 13 founding states. The formal ratification was completed in 1781.

    Vcitory won by American troops along with Frnech Army Troops. It was the last major land battle of the Revolutionary War.

    It created the Northwest Territory as the first organixed territory of the United States. It established the sovereignty of the federal government.
