Arthur was born in October 17,1915 in Harlem,New York, to Isidore Miller and Augusta Miller. -
In 1923 Arthur sees his very first play at about 8 years old. He sees a melodrama play at the Schubert Theater. -
Arthur’s father Isidore who had invested a large amount of money on the stock market and lots a large amount of money during the Great Depression time. Which caused the family to move to Brooklyn. -
After moving to Brooklyn Arthur attends Abraham Lincoln High school. While being in high school he also starts to work in an auto-parts warehouse so that he is able to pay for college. Arthur also starts to attend New York City College although he did struggle keeping up with his school work and work.Finally Arthur graduates from high is in 1932. -
After being denied twice from the University of Michigan, Arthur is finally accepted. While attending the university he works as a reporter and night editor for the university’s newspaper.(the Michigan Daily) -
In 1936 Arthur writes his first play called No Villain. He wrote this play in the spam of 6 days. He then receives the Hopwood Award in Drama.After that he decides to transfer to an English major. -
In 1936 Arthur writes his second play Honors at Dawn. He doesn’t get his second Hopwood award in 1937 though. After that he decided to enter a writing contest and turn in other play called The Great Disobedience, but receives second place.

Arthur takes a playwrighting class with the Professor Kenneth. He rewrites the play No Villain and ch ages the title to They Too Arise. -
Arthur graduates from college in 1938 and starts to find work writing radio plays for the Federal Theater. A little time after the government finally ends the Depression era program after all the -
Arthur marries his college sweetheart, who was a catholic woman named Mary Grace. -
Arthur starts to work as a ship fitter’s helper in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. He chooses to work during the night so that he is able to write during the day.

Arthur finds a job as a screenwriter for a war film which is The Story of G.I. Joe. He also quits his job in the Navy Yard. -
Arthur ‘s first professional play was The Man Who Had All the Luck. This play receives the Theater Guild National Award and also opens on Broadway. Even though the play received an award, the play bombed and had to be closed after only 4 performances. -
While Arthur’s play was open on Broadway Mary also gave birth to their first daughter named Jane. -
Arthur wrote this play that was based on a true story. This play was about a man who was selling invalid machine parts to the U.S. military during WWII. The okay wins TWO Tony Awards and also the New York Drama Critics’ Circle Award. It is also rated one of the best plays of 1947. -
The same year the play All My Sons won awards Arthur’s son Robert was born.

However he refuses and is questioned about his involvement with the communist activities.
