The flag is the only one that was in a public competition. Melbourne Herald was the person that conducted the competition. There was nearly 33,000 enters for it and it took 6 days to judge.

Australia had a shutdown and Queen Elizabeth II had her representative fire the Prime Minister of Australia. Later that day she fired the whole Parliamentary. The people had set up elections to build a new Parliament from scratch. This was the only time Australia had a shutdown.
