  • August 23, 1939

    Germany and the Soviet Union sign non-aggression pact. They also secretly agree the partition of Poland. This pact has shocked the whole Europe and created a big communism power.
  • September 1, 1939

    German troops invaded Poland and annexing Danzig and bombing Warsaw, known as “Blitzkrieg.” This later caused war which France and Great Britain team up to fight Germany and the Holocaust has already take place.
  • September 1939 (legislation)

    Roosevelt has persuaded the Congress to pass the “cash-and-carry” provision that allowed warring nations to borrow U.S. arms if they pay cash and carry them by their own ships. This made the US to help Britain and France to defeat Hitler and keep the US out of war.
  • May-June 1940 Invasion of France

    The Invasion of France caused by Germany has made Germany conquered many places. Started from May 1940, Germany started to defeat Allied forces using mobile operations and conquered France, Belgium, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands.
  • July-October 1940 Battle of Britain

    During this period of time, the Royal Air Force defended Great Britain from Nazi Germany’s attacks. This is not just an ordinary war but is described as the first major battle that is being fought by using aircrafts. The purpose is to sign a negotiated peace settlement.
  • September 27, 1940

    On this date, Germany, Italy, and Japan sign the Tripartite Pact, and the three nations became known as the Axis Powers. The Axis nation agree to come to defense to help others in case of attack and their purpose of doing this is they want to keep the U.S. out of the war.
  • March 1941

    Roosevelt proposed the Lend-Lease Act on this day and it states the president would lend or lease arms and other supplies to “a country whose defense was vital to the United States.” This is aimed to not getting the U.S. into the war but also prevent the U.S. from attack.
  • June 1941

    Hitler broke the agreement he had made in 1939 with Stalin and invaded the Soviet Union. Even though many Americans disagreed about providing aid to Stalin, but Roosevelt has the same idea with Winston Churchill and the U.S. supported Stalin.
  • Fall 1941 German Wolf Packs

    Germany used U-boats to attack supply ships, the group of U-boats that caused individual surface attacks become known as the wolf pack attack. The wolf packs are successful in sinking as much as 350,000 tons of shipments in a single month. Soon Roosevelt granted navy permission for U.S. warships to attack German U-boats in self-defense.
  • December 7, 1941

    On this day, after Japan has rejected all American peace proposals, they have attacked Pearl Harbor that caused a devastating result in U.S. ships and the U.S. army. This soon caused Roosevelt to declare war and the U.S. joined World War 2.
