  • Alexander the great

    Alexander the great

Some defining features of Alexander is his beardless face which broke tradition as most rulers before him were depicted with beards. His hair is also another standout characteristic, it was very thick and wavy, and due to that, many said he had a lion-like personality.

One thing thats fascinating about this sculpture is its hollowness, specifically in his eyes and mouth. We see themes of humanity, pain. You can see that he is exhausted which makes sense because he's a warrior/soldier. He's a warrior based not just on his name, but his physique, he is built/fit. The statue is very alive, his face, his posture and the attention to detail to him. The sculpture makes you empathize for this man, as you can almost feel his pain, his loss, and maybe how tired he is.
