Vespucci thought he has sailed along the coast of the extreme easterly coast of Asia where Ptolemy the geographer, thought the market of Cattigara to be; so he looked for the tip of this peninsula, calling it Cape Cattigara -

After returning to Spain, Vespucci asked the king for resources to lead a expedition to the Indian Ocean when he was denied he went to Portugal. -
